Nonprofits Chosen For TRU Powered By Ideals

Foundation: Arkansas Community Foundation, Walton Family Foundation

"We couldn't be more honored and excited to work with the leaders of these 35 organizations representing missions essential to our region's health and vitality." So says Elecia Smith, executive director of the IDEALS Institute at the University of Arkansas, which has received a $2,185,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation and the Walton Family Foundation to help 35 nonprofits in Benton and Washington counties boost their diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

The second phase of the "Uplift" initiative, led by the IDEALS Institute at the University of Arkansas, was launched on March 29, 2022.

The goal of the two-year program is "to provide cohort participants with practical strategies to advance their diversity, equity, and inclusion] journeys and strengthen the efforts of local nonprofits," Smith says, per the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Each of the 35 participating nonprofits will receive $50,000 in technical assistance over the course of the program.

"For nonprofits new to diversity, equity, and inclusion] work, the initiative will provide foundational tools and knowledge to help address the challenges of serving increasingly diverse populations in Northwest Arkansas," Smith says.
